Solaria by Arrital: The Modern Italian Outdoor Kitchen

Engineered for California Living

The Modern Italian Outdoor Kitchen

.There is a moment in every well-designed California home when the boundary between inside and outside simply stops mattering. The glass wall slides away, the terrace becomes the dining room, and the pool deck becomes the place where the evening actually happens. For years, the one element that never quite kept pace with this way of living was the outdoor kitchen. Grill islands built from masonry and off-the-shelf components could be functional, occasionally even handsome — but they were never designed in the way an Arrital kitchen is designed.

Solaria changes that.

Presented by Arrital as the brand’s first complete outdoor kitchen system, Solaria is the work of architect Franco Driusso — the same design direction behind the AK_Project, AK_04, and AK_07 collections that define the interiors we install across Palm Springs, Rancho Mirage, and Silicon Valley. It is a modern Italian outdoor kitchen in the fullest sense: not a barbecue cart with better styling, but a patented architectural system in AISI 316 stainless steel, heat-treated ash, and porcelain stoneware, conceived from the first sketch to live outdoors — through desert summers, coastal air, and everything a California season can deliver.

At Tredi Interiors, we import Solaria directly from Italy, exactly as we do with every Arrital collection. No distributor layers, no markup chain — just the factory, our showrooms in Rancho Mirage and Santa Clara, and your terrace.

SOLARIA Luxury Italian Outdoor Kitchen

A Design Philosophy That Begins Outdoors

Most outdoor kitchens on the American market are interior kitchens pushed through the back door — the same box construction, the same hinges, the same assumptions, wrapped in weather-resistant cladding and hoped for the best. Arrital took the opposite approach. Solaria was never a transposition of an indoor system. It was conceived from the ground up to engage with climate, light, and open-air use, addressing exterior conditions with the same design precision Arrital applies to its interior collections.

Franco Driusso frames the project in terms of a dialogue with nature: designing for the exterior means engaging with natural forces directly, and Solaria answers with a balance of material, form, and sustainability — an essential, high-performance design that brings together beauty, strength, and harmony.

You can see the naval influence immediately. The brochure calls it “shaped by naval thinking, made for open spaces,” and the reference is not decorative. Like the deck hardware of a well-built yacht, every component of Solaria assumes exposure: marine-grade steel, drained surfaces, ventilated compartments, and details calibrated so that water, heat, and time become design variables rather than threats. For a luxury outdoor kitchen destined for a Coachella Valley pool terrace or an Atherton garden, that engineering pedigree is precisely what separates a system that looks good on installation day from one that still looks intentional a decade later.

Solaria by Arrital: The Modern Italian Outdoor Kitchen

Engineered for Weather: Drainage, Ventilation, and Serviceability

What makes Solaria a genuinely designer outdoor Italian kitchen rather than styled outdoor furniture is the invisible engineering. Three technical systems, documented in Arrital’s own drawings, define the difference.
Integrated drainage. Water outdoors is inevitable — rain, condensation, the splash zone of an adjacent pool. Solaria treats it as a design variable, integrated with measure. An internal drainage system channels water and condensation through the cabinetry and away, preventing the pooling that destroys conventional outdoor units. As Arrital puts it, water is not a constraint but a variable transformed into balance and continuity.
Natural ventilation. The structure is designed to promote continuous airflow through the technical compartments. Heat from appliances dissipates; humidity never stagnates; stored equipment stays dry. This passive system requires no maintenance and no power — it is simply built into the geometry.
A dedicated technical compartment. Electrical and plumbing systems install through a dedicated, protected compartment that guarantees both safety and simplicity of installation. For our project managers — and for the electricians and plumbers we coordinate with on every California installation — this is the feature that turns a complex outdoor build into a clean, predictable process.
These are the details a rendering never shows and a showroom visit makes obvious. They are also protected: Solaria is the result of advanced design research safeguarded by invention and model patents — a rarity in the outdoor category, and a signal of how seriously Arrital took the engineering brief.

Modularity: 60, 80, and 120 cm — Infinite Compositions

Like every Arrital system we work with, Solaria is designed as a modular, flexible platform capable of virtually infinite compositions. The module logic is simple and rigorous:

The 60 and 120 cm modules offer generous, flexible planning — the vocabulary for larger compositions where a full-width grill module, an undercounter refrigeration bay, and deep storage all need their place. A classic 240 cm composition (60-120-60) creates a balanced island with cooking at center and service zones at each end.

The 80 cm module strikes a balance between compact proportions and compositional versatility — the right grammar for tighter terraces, or for three-module compositions (80-80-80) that privilege simplicity and formal control.

Modules combine left- or right-handed, single- or double-sided, open or closed. The reference monobloc measures 240 cm long by 106 cm deep with the snack counter — proportions that feel substantial without overwhelming a terrace. Because the system is modular, every Solaria we design at Tredi Interiors is drawn specifically for its site: around an existing structural column, along a pool edge, or centered on the axis of a great room’s sliding wall.

This is where our dual practice matters. Tredi Interiors is not only a direct importer; we are a design and construction studio. Our team produces complete technical drawings, coordinates utilities with your general contractor, and installs to the millimeter — the same discipline we bring to every indoor Arrital project, extended outdoors.

Ombralux: Light and Shade as Part of the Kitchen

One accessory deserves its own chapter, because nothing like it exists elsewhere in the outdoor category.

Ombralux is Solaria’s orientable disc — part parasol, part lamp, entirely sculptural. By day, it defines a sheltered zone over the work surface, casting shade exactly where the cook stands. By evening, it accompanies outdoor living with a discreet luminous presence, transforming from sunshade to ambient light source. Arrital describes it as a harmonious connection between time and space, function and design — and in use, that is exactly how it feels: the kitchen adapts to the hour rather than the other way around.

Ombralux adjusts to multiple positions and can be installed at any of the four corners of the kitchen, so shade and light follow the sun’s path and the evening’s geometry. Its lighting element is a rechargeable battery torch — 3.2 V, 15 Ah — housed in AISI 316 stainless steel with a USB-C charging port. No trenched wiring, no fixed conduit: the light lifts out, charges, and returns.

For evening entertaining — which, in Palm Springs, is most entertaining — Ombralux is the detail guests remember.

AISI 316 Stainless Steel: The Structural Truth of Solaria

The heart of the system — and the reason Solaria performs where conventional outdoor cabinetry fails — is its structure in AISI 316 stainless steel.

AISI 316 is not the standard stainless steel found in most residential appliances. It is the marine-grade alloy specified for yacht fittings, coastal architecture, and professional environments where corrosion resistance is non-negotiable. Its elevated molybdenum content gives it exceptional resistance to salt air, pool chemicals, and atmospheric agents — the exact conditions that pit and stain lesser steels within a few seasons.

Arrital did not stop at the frame. In Solaria, even the internal structure of the storage modules is made entirely from AISI 316 stainless steel. Open a door on this designer modern outdoor kitchen and the material story continues inside: no hidden particleboard, no compromise concealed behind a beautiful front. For clients who have lived with the disappointment of “outdoor-rated” cabinetry that quietly deteriorated from the inside out, this is the detail that changes everything.

The structural system is complemented by a height-adjustable frame — a quietly brilliant solution for real-world terraces, where paving is rarely perfectly level and where counter height can be tuned to the people who will actually cook there. Integrated accessories lock into the same framework, so the composition stays coherent no matter how it is configured.

Solaria is also ecosustainable and recyclable — a consideration that matters increasingly to our California clients, and one that Arrital treats as a design principle rather than a marketing line.

Solaria by Arrital: The Modern Italian Outdoor Kitchen

Two Architectures: Freestanding Monobloc and Linear Wall

Solaria is offered in two fundamental configurations, each with its own architectural logic.

The Freestanding Solaria Monobloc

In its freestanding single-unit version, Solaria stands as a sculptural volume, free within the space — an autonomous island that becomes the heart of outdoor living. This is the configuration we specify most often for Desert Modern estates in Rancho Mirage and Indian Wells, where the pool terrace is generous and the kitchen deserves to be a centerpiece rather than a fixture against a wall.

The monobloc defines its surroundings through essential proportions and a strong architectural presence, while maintaining a natural balance with its context. Guests gather around it the way they gather around a great dining table. With the snack counter in heat-treated ash cantilevered along one side and stools drawn up, it becomes bar, prep station, and social anchor simultaneously.

Linear Solaria

The linear wall configuration reads Solaria in a more discreet, measured key. Set against a wall, it interprets that wall as an architectural element in dialogue with the space, preserving the structural purity of the setting. It integrates naturally into the architecture, following its proportions and enhancing the space with discretion and formal continuity.

This is the configuration for the covered loggia, the compact urban terrace in San Francisco or San Jose, the outdoor room where the kitchen should support the architecture rather than compete with it. Arrital’s own imagery places Linear Solaria against dark thermo-treated wood cladding and in rooftop urban settings — a reminder that this system fits into the urban fabric as a discreet form of architecture, expressing a city’s vitality with elegance and a contemporary character.

Materials: The Solaria Palette

A luxury outdoor kitchen lives or dies by its surfaces. Solaria’s material system is built on three families, each selected for genuine outdoor performance.

AISI 316 stainless steel and Frassino Termotrattato. Together, these define Solaria’s material character. Frassino Termotrattato — heat-treated ash — is wood taken through a thermal modification process that dramatically improves its dimensional stability and resistance to moisture. It appears in the snack counters and slatted lower shelves, bringing warmth and tactility against the precision of the steel. The contrast is quintessentially Italian: technical rigor softened by natural material.

Grès porcelain stoneware. Used for horizontal work surfaces, porcelain stoneware delivers high performance and durability — resistant to UV, heat, staining, and thermal shock. The Solaria stoneware palette is remarkably deep: dramatic marble interpretations like Calacatta Black bocciardato, Statuario Venato, and Emperador Extra; stone and mineral surfaces like Pietra Piasentina Grigio, Savoia Antracite, and Savoia Grigio; soft lime-inspired textures in Calce Bianco and Calce Nero; and flamed earthen finishes — Terra di Pompei, Terra di Matera — that resonate beautifully with desert architecture.

MDi surfaces. For horizontal work surfaces, Solaria also offers MDi, an advanced sintered mineral surface engineered for high performance and long-lasting durability. The MDi range spans from Ares Piedra and Iseo Gris through Korten — a weathered-steel effect that pairs strikingly with the anti-UV Corten wrap — to Silk Camel, Urium Crema, and the deep, veined black of Azalai Nero.

Anti-UV wrap films. For door fronts, side panels, and the rear panel, Solaria offers anti-UV protective films that help define each project’s identity while shielding surfaces from sun exposure — available in WRP Titanio, WRP Corten, and WRP Matrix Nero. In the Coachella Valley, where UV load is among the highest in the country, this is not a cosmetic option; it is the difference between a facade that holds its color and one that fades.

Every one of these materials is on display in our showrooms. We encourage clients to see them in real light — ideally the same desert or Bay Area light their kitchen will live in.

Appliances and Everyday Function

A designer modern outdoor kitchen must ultimately cook. Solaria accepts a wide range of appliances — from traditional gas or electric barbecues to teppanyaki plates and induction hobs — all certified for outdoor use. The system integrates sinks with professional-style mixers, undercounter storage, and refrigeration provisions within its ventilated, drained architecture.

The ergonomic thinking mirrors what we see in Arrital’s interior systems: intelligent solutions interpret the complexity of the kitchen, optimizing space and guaranteeing a fluid, welcoming experience of use. The accessory program extends the workspace naturally:

Snack counters in Frassino Termotrattato are available in 160, 180, and 240 cm lengths, cantilevered from the main volume to create dining and serving surfaces. A 40 cm rotating tray in stainless steel swings out from the frame — a landing spot for a platter or an aperitivo. Stainless steel backsplashes and shelves (160, 180, 240 cm) accompany daily work with solidity and measure, and organizer trays in 60 and 80 cm keep tools ordered within the composition.

Everything belongs to the same design language. Nothing is bolted on.

From the Brochure to Your Terrace: The Tredi Interiors Process

Since 1979, Arrital has interpreted living as an expression of culture and conscious design — and since our own founding within the Mobili Tredi group in 1969, we have shared that conviction. As a direct importer, Tredi Interiors sources Solaria straight from Arrital’s production in Fontanafredda, Italy, controls the logistics, and delivers and installs with our own team. The distributor markup that inflates most luxury outdoor kitchen pricing in the U.S. simply is not part of our model.

Our process for Solaria follows the same disciplined path as our interior projects:

Design consultation. We begin with your site — terrace dimensions, sun path, utility locations, the relationship to the indoor kitchen and the pool. Whether the project is in La Quinta or Los Gatos, our in-house designers develop the composition in Arrital’s module logic and present it in detailed renderings.

Technical development. Complete drawings for your architect, contractor, or our own construction team: utility rough-ins routed to Solaria’s dedicated technical compartment, drainage coordination, gas and electrical specifications for the selected appliances.

Direct import and installation. Production in Italy, ocean freight under our control, white-glove installation by Tredi Interiors specialists who level the height-adjustable frame, set the stoneware or MDi surfaces, and commission every appliance.

Because we also operate as a full design-build studio for kitchens, bathrooms, and remodels, Solaria frequently arrives as part of a larger conversation — an indoor Arrital kitchen flowing to an outdoor one, a pool house project, a complete Desert Modern renovation. The design language carries through seamlessly, because it was conceived to: Solaria extends the Arrital design approach beyond the boundaries of the home.

Why Solaria Is the Outdoor Kitchen California Was Waiting For

Consider what our climate actually asks of an outdoor kitchen. In the Coachella Valley: 115-degree summers, relentless UV, dust, and the occasional monsoon downpour. On the Peninsula and in the South Bay: marine air, fog cycles, damp winters. Most outdoor cabinetry is engineered for none of this. Solaria is engineered for all of it — marine-grade structure, anti-UV facades, integrated drainage, passive ventilation, and outdoor-certified appliances, wrapped in a formal language refined enough to sit beside architecture by the best firms we collaborate with.

And it is beautiful in a way the category has never been. Essential lines, deep material research, and a measured relationship between light and surfaces enhance the purity of the design. Whether specified as a freestanding sculptural island beside an infinity pool or a linear composition under a loggia, Solaria treats the outdoors as a space to be lived in — with ease, and with a clear sense of identity.

Living outdoors, as Arrital says, should feel like home.

Solaria Outdoor Kitchen — FAQ

Brand & Design Philosophy

Solaria is Arrital’s first complete outdoor kitchen system, designed by architect Franco Driusso. Built on a marine-grade AISI 316 stainless steel structure and protected by invention and model patents, it brings Arrital’s Italian design language — familiar from collections like AK_Project and AK_04 — to terraces, gardens, and pool decks.

Solaria was designed from the ground up for outdoor life rather than adapted from indoor cabinetry. It features an AISI 316 stainless steel structure inside and out, integrated drainage, natural ventilation of technical compartments, anti-UV facade films, a height-adjustable frame, and outdoor-certified appliances — all within a modular architectural system.

Two: the Freestanding Solaria Monobloc, a sculptural island positioned freely in the space, and Linear Solaria, a wall-mounted composition for more compact or architectural settings. Both build from 60, 80, and 120 cm modules into virtually unlimited compositions.

Work surfaces come in Grès porcelain stoneware or MDi sintered mineral surfaces — from Calacatta Black and Statuario Venato to Korten and Azalai Nero. Snack counters are crafted in Frassino Termotrattato (heat-treated ash), and door fronts, side panels, and rear panels can be finished with anti-UV wrap films in Titanio, Corten, or Matrix Nero.

Traditional gas or electric barbecues, teppanyaki plates, and induction hobs — all certified for outdoor use — plus sinks, refrigeration, and integrated storage.

Yes. Its AISI 316 marine-grade steel resists corrosion and heat, anti-UV films protect facades from intense desert sun, and the integrated drainage and ventilation systems handle temperature swings and seasonal storms. It is equally suited to Bay Area coastal air.
